A line of Bible clothing from popular women’s and men’s brands, including Macy’s, L.L. Bean and J. Crew, has sold out in the past year, according to online shopping giant Amazon.com.
The “Bible Clothing Line” is a limited-edition line of clothing made from “biblical materials,” which are “made with the most precious items from God’s Word,” according to Amazon.
“They will not be washed, altered or worn with any other material,” according the store.
“These products are handcrafted with love, and not just a paycheck.”
“Our team of designers has spent years making our clothes with the highest quality materials possible, so you can be sure that your clothes will be as beautiful and functional as the Bible.”
Amazon.com has been a leader in the Bible clothing market, selling more than $3 billion worth of clothing in 2016.
The line of $40.95 men’s and $40 and up women’s Christian clothing includes a full range of women’s items, including a full set of women clothing for women and girls, as well as a full line of men’s clothing including shirts, pants, jackets, shoes and a variety of accessories, such as belts and socks.
The clothing line was announced in February 2016, but the first order of clothing came in just three weeks after the line was officially launched.
The first order shipped in February 2017, according a release from Amazon.
But, Amazon.co.uk said, the clothing line had been “on hold for some time.”
“As a result, we were unable to fulfill the order in time for the Christmas season,” the release said.
“We sincerely apologize to all our customers for the delay in delivering the items.”
Amazon has also been a strong supporter of the Bible.
In October 2016, the company donated $20 million to the Salvation Army in the form of a cash distribution program.
In 2017, Amazon gave $1 million to a non-profit that helps women and children overcome poverty in Nigeria, and it also donated $1.5 million to organizations working to support women in the Middle East.
Amazon also has a partnership with JCPenney, which in 2018 started offering a Bible-themed men’s line, with a $100 value.
“As the leading online retailer of Christian clothing, Amazon has been committed to supporting and empowering Christians throughout the years,” the company said in a statement.
“The Bible Clothing Line is one of our most popular line of Christian apparel, and our team of leading designers has been working hard to bring these styles to life.”
The company is not disclosing the number of orders it has sold of the line, but Amazon.de, an online marketplace for Christian products, reported the line has sold a total of about 500,000 pairs of Christian clothes, a figure that would place it above the 400,000 to 500,00 orders it had in May 2018.
It is unclear how many pairs of clothing the Bible line has actually sold, but a survey published in December 2018 by Christian News Network found that more than 1.3 million pairs of the clothing had been sold.
The company declined to comment on the number and status of the sale.
Amazon.co and JCPenternews reported similar numbers.
Amazon is not the only online retailer to sell Christian clothing.
In November, Amazon announced a partnership to buy Christian clothing brand The Glamour Group.
The company said it will use the purchase to “rebuild its Christian presence.”
The news was met with criticism from a number of Christian leaders, including President of the Southern Baptist Convention the Rev. Billy Graham.
“It’s disappointing that Amazon has made a strategic partnership with an online retailer that has a long history of supporting the Bible Belt,” Graham said in an emailed statement.
“The Glamor Group is a great Christian company, but they have a long record of supporting immoral and deceptive practices, such a selling a false and misleading Bible and engaging in lies about Christians.”
The announcement came after Amazon’s stock dropped about 8% on Thursday.
Amazon stock is currently down about 12% over the past month.
