The latest edition of TIME has a special cover story, The Future of Style, highlighting the trend of women’s lace underwear.
The new issue features a wide range of fashion designers including Valentino, Mango, Jil Sander, Giorgio Armani, Stella McCartney, and Dolce & Gabbana.
In the article, TIME editor Sarah Parnass writes: “When do we get lace underwear?”
The magazine asked a handful of fashion industry insiders to weigh in on the issue and find out what the industry is thinking.
“I think it’s inevitable,” says Jules Dutkiewicz, director of communications at Mango.
“It’s a good trend, and I’m always on the lookout for a new trend.”
Jules, who was on the cover of TIME in 2016, says that the trend is definitely here.
“Lace underwear has always been a cool trend, but it’s definitely come to the point where people want to wear it, because they can’t get it anymore,” he says.
“People are looking for something that will be comfortable, they’ll be able to wear with the right clothes, and it will have a flattering fit.”
But, says Dut, “Lacing underwear has been a little too limited in its choices, to say the least.”
“When did the trend get too narrow?” asked Sarah.
“This was the last year that we did the look,” agrees Jules.
“We did the silhouette for the last two seasons, but we haven’t had any runway showings yet.
We are working on a new silhouette for next season, so hopefully we’ll be ready to show it out.”
